(Although ClickBank requires that you have at least 5 sales before they cut you that first check. And two of those have to be from different credit card numbers. This is to keep people from signing up to promote their affiliate products just so they can buy from their own links.)
Getting even a small check from ClickBank is very empowering. My first ClickBank payout was for $57 dollars, but it felt like a million because it was proof that I could be successful at selling digital products online. Until I got that first ClickBank paycheck I wasn’t so sure. And if you’re making regular sales you’ll receive a paycheck in the mail every two week. (A $2.50 pay period processing charge is deducted from each payment they issue.)
The downside to ClickBank payout rules is that they penalize for having a static account. What this means is if you’re not making any sales, they will charge you money. They are called Dormant Accounts and the penalty fees are as follows: the accounts that have a positive balance but no earnings for an extended period of time are charged $1 per pay period after 90 days of no earnings, $5 per pay period after 180 days of no earnings, and $50 per pay period after 365 days of no earnings. So if you’ve got money in your account and aren’t making any sales, set your threshold low enough to get a check sent to you. And if you close your account, make sure you do it when you have more then $10 in it because anything under $10 is forfeit.
Yes, the ClickBank payout rules sound rather like they’re trying to nickel and dime their affiliates, but if you are truly attempting to make money by selling ClickBank products then these rules shouldn’t worry you too much.
Don’t let the downside of ClickBank payout rules keep you from promoting their products. It may take a while for you to get that first check but once you cash it you’ll be hooked and wanting more. If you are starting out with the ClickBank system, I found out about a very discouraging rule that can affect your ClickBank payout.
To get your ClickBank pay, a ClickBank check is mailed out twice per month. But before you can get your first check, there are certain conditions that must be met.
First, you have to meet the minimum payout threshold. You get to set your own payout level, but remember when choosing, that they will charge you $2.50 per payout and the only way to economize on this is to set a higher payout level. Then you have to wait longer, obviously, for your ClickBank check. This is how the ClickBank pay system works.
However you choose to deal with that ClickBank problem, there is more. Not only do you have to meet your minimum payout level, but on top of that — the amount has to come from 5 different sales and 5 different customers! So the minimum level doesn’t even matter until this requirement is met. And what’s worse, if a customer pays with PayPal, that sale won’t even count towards the 5! It has to be 5 credit card sales to count.
So you can see that if you make a couple sales, you are not going to get a ClickBank check until you’ve sold more and achieved at least the five different customers sales. And then there is still more!
If your account should go 90 days without any activity, they say the account is “dormant” and begin to charge you a dollar every single payday as a fee. Then $5 each payday if it’s 180 days.
It doesn’t matter what your balance may be, you could be watching it decline, little by little, until it is completely gone!
This is what has happened to a huge percentage of ClickBank affiliates, and ClickBank keeps the money. It is the biggest reason that affiliates fail and quit. If you think this won’t happen to you, did you know that currently, over 90% of all ClickBank accounts are considered “dormant”?

Jinger: I’ve read your ebook “Clickbank Profit Machine”. You really explain in plain language how to get the most out of marketing Clickbank products. Would you explain what led you to write this ebook?
Dylan: Thanks for the compliment Jinger. The main impetus behind the whole book actually stems from my own frustration. My frustration at not being able to find a single book that explains in detail for the (newbie – intermediate marketer) how to work the Clickbank ‘monster’.
I got parts of the picture from this book, another piece from that one and so on and so forth… It was REALLY time consuming and expensive. I wanted to create an ebook which presented all the ‘meat’ to the marketer, allowing him to concentrate on doing what he/she should be doing – Making money!
Jinger: Why do you market Clickbank products?
Dylan: My honest opinion is this: Clickbank has the best digital product download system. It’s payouts are clean, simple and timely. You can be sure of finding a winner in the marketplace (to promote) because of the sheer number of merchants selling though Clickbank.
Over the years, Clickbank has achieved a ‘top-of-the-mind’ positioning. So when a digital retailer wants to bring his next big thing to the net, it’s Clickbank that comes to the mind FIRST.
Of course, if I had it my way, I’d like to see more features incorporated. For example, a 2-tier affiliate system. But the bottom line is, marketing Clickbank products is easy. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have created a product based entirely on it 
Jinger: What internet marketing technique do you find to be the most effective, and how do you use it? Would you tell us one or two of your best marketing tips?
Dylan: Sure! I find article marketing to be very very effective for me. It’s free, its fun and it has been very profitable. There’s a multitude of reasons why you should get started on articles.
I’ll share a little something here. An article SEO tip.
Say, you promote a muscle gaining ebook on Clickbank and want to write a few articles on it. Well, your first thought for the article would be to create an attention grabbing article title right? Maybe something like: “A sure-fire guaranteed way to build a six-pack in just 15 days!” Maybe not the best example but you can expect plenty of attention from it. BUT having a headline like this presents a problem.
Search engines pick up articles and places a greater importance on the first THREE words of an article. So essentially your words here are “a sure fire” and that doesn’t build anything meaningful.
A headline like ‘Build strong muscles in 15 days’ would serve you better because the words ‘build strong muscles’ are something you’d expect your target market to search on.
I’ve written articles both ways (attention grabbing vs Seo) and have fairly better results with the ones that are ‘seo-ed’.
For an example of an ‘seo-ed’ article I did, search for ‘promote clickbank’. You can see several listings on the 1st and 2nd page for an article I wrote

Jinger: What trends do you see at Clickbank? What do you see in the future of affiliate marketing, as well as marketing Clickbank products?
Dylan: Clickbank is undergoing a revival of some sorts. It has added tons of new features and I can see it continue doing so.
I see more and more newbie marketers jumping into Clickbank and selling their hastily created products before proper research. It’s true you’ve got to have your own product BUT to jump in without any proof of success and without any proper knowledge would spell failure.
It’ll get increasingly harder to dig out good products to promote and the competition will get tougher.
Jinger: What projects are you currently working on, and where do you plan to take your business from here?
Dylan: I’m working on a few projects at the moment. My new project has gone live not too long ago, List Profit Machine, it’s about profiting from free traffic exchanges.
