How would you like to be notified by ClickBank each time you make an affiliate sale?
Despite the fact that ClickBank offers this service to its affiliates, few ClickBank affiliates are aware that instant notification is available to them. For this reason, few use the service. In this article I am going to try to help change the status quo by telling you more about the instant notification service, and letting you know how you can use it within a few minutes of finishing this article.
ClickBank introduced its instant notification service at the beginning of 2008. However, the affiliate network did not make it easy for their non technical affiliates to use the service, and the announcement of the instant notification protocol went largely unnoticed.
Here is how it works. Assuming that you enable instant notifications from within you ClickBank affiliate account, ClickBank will endeavor to send to any web application (which you specify) that can receive it, a record of each transaction that goes into your account over the course of the day.
Therein, as they say, lies the rub. You are required to have a web application sitting on a site that you own, which can receive the information from ClickBank (in the form of a POST request containing the data). Your application is then expected to turn around and email you the same information.
To its credit, ClickBank makes available some code which explains how to parse the information that it sends you. It also explains how to verify that the data you receive has not been tampered with on route.
But most affiliates would have simply preferred to have been given a web application that will do the job for them without them having to spend time trying to code something of their own.
Fortunately, these days it is possible to bypass all of this technical nonsense and get ClickBank sales notifications simply by downloading a FREE web application called CB Alert that logs your ClickBank sales transactions and sends you alerts. All you have to do is configure the application and visit ClickBank to switch on your instant notifications.
There is actually more than one advantage to doing this, both for you, and for ClickBank. Most affiliates are prone to logging into their ClickBank account several times a day to see whether they have made any new sales. But this is no longer needed if you are being informed, in real time, about new sales that are coming in. It is also a boon to ClickBank, because by offloading you from their servers – which are not exactly speedy – the login experience for remaining affiliates improves.
So, the bottom line is that you don’t have to be a ClickBank vendor to get special treatment in the form of sales alerts. Affiliates are entitled to the service too. If you are starting out with the ClickBank system, I found out about a very discouraging rule that can affect your ClickBank payout.
To get your ClickBank pay, a ClickBank check is mailed out twice per month. But before you can get your first check, there are certain conditions that must be met.
First, you have to meet the minimum payout threshold. You get to set your own payout level, but remember when choosing, that they will charge you $2.50 per payout and the only way to economize on this is to set a higher payout level. Then you have to wait longer, obviously, for your ClickBank check. This is how the ClickBank pay system works.
However you choose to deal with that ClickBank problem, there is more. Not only do you have to meet your minimum payout level, but on top of that — the amount has to come from 5 different sales and 5 different customers! So the minimum level doesn’t even matter until this requirement is met. And what’s worse, if a customer pays with PayPal, that sale won’t even count towards the 5! It has to be 5 credit card sales to count.
So you can see that if you make a couple sales, you are not going to get a ClickBank check until you’ve sold more and achieved at least the five different customers sales. And then there is still more!
If your account should go 90 days without any activity, they say the account is “dormant” and begin to charge you a dollar every single payday as a fee. Then $5 each payday if it’s 180 days.
It doesn’t matter what your balance may be, you could be watching it decline, little by little, until it is completely gone!
